The New York Times first reported on the fundraising success, which Fox News has since confirmed.

The fundraising total includes contributions from a number of major Republican donors, including Rebekah Mercer, who donated $2 million; casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, who donated $1 million; Texas homebuilder Bob Perry, who donated $500,000; and Robert Kraft of the Kraft Group, who donated $25,000.

The total sum also includes donations from small donors.

The majority of the funds, about $4.2 million, were raised during a “Trump Legal Fight” fundraising drive. The funds raised will help cover the legal costs of defending Trump in criminal and civil court probings, such as the ongoing investigation by New York authorities into his business dealings.

The fundraising success comes as the former president faces a raft of legal issues following his time in office, including potential criminal charges related to the Capitol insurrection and the ongoing investigations into his finances.
