IHOP announced that it has rolled out a biscuits menu nationwide for the first time since 1935 in an attempt to combat slowing sales. The debut of its biscuit menu – which consists of biscuit sandwiches, breakfast plates, and snacks – is part of the chain’s effort to revive business after IHOP’s parent company, Dine Brands Global, reported that restaurant sales at its IHOP and Applebee’s chains had declined 4.3 percent in the third quarter.
The biscuit menu includes four new savory items: The Classic Bacon Biscuit Sandwich, the Spicy Chorizo Biscuit Sandwich, the Triple Cheese Biscuit ‘n’ Gravy, and the Sausage Patty Biscuit ‘n’ Gravy. IHOP is also offering three sweet biscuit items: Cinnamon Roll Biscuit ‘n’ Gravy, a Southern-style Strawberry & Cream Biscuit ‘n’ Gravy, and a Chilled Strawberry Shortcake Biscuit ‘n’ Gravy.
The biscuits menu is not the only thing IHOP is doing in response to slowing sales. The restaurant chain has also introduced limited-time seasonal menus, launched a nationwide delivery program, expanded its late-night menu, and offered value-priced combos.
IHOP is hoping that the new menu will draw customers back and help grow sales. According to a company press release, IHOP’s biscuits will have a “home-cooked” taste and are made from scratch at the restaurant with special spices, buttermilk, and butter. IHOP president Jay Johns expressed his enthusiasm for the new menu, saying “We’re so proud and excited to be the first major family dining brand to bring a Biscuits Menu to nationwide. Our hope is that guests will enjoy the All-American treats we’ve created and come in and experience the incredible combination of quality and value that IHOP is now offering on the menu.”
