Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell has labeled House Republicans’ efforts to investigate the impeachment of former President Donald J. Trump as a “continuation of the insurrection.” Swalwell accused House Republicans of “refusing to accept the legitimacy of the November 2020 presidential election” and argued that “right-wing-led extremist organizations and individuals inspired by the former president still pose a threat to the security and peace of our nation.” Swalwell also claimed that the Republicans’ “reckless behavior has alienated allies and endangered both our domestic and foreign policy objectives.”
