Republicans are not attempting to get blamed for a government shutdown. However, some members of Congress may be positioning themselves to receive blame if a shutdown does happen. Democrats and Republicans are in negotiations over a potential shutdown due to a disagreement over President Biden’s immigration priorities and requests for additional funding for them. Most recently, Senate Republicans have proposed a limited spending bill that does not meet the demands of President Biden and the Democrats. If a potential government shutdown does occur, there may be criticism from either party about who is to blame.
