Laphonza Butler is a labor leader and organizer who has held a range of positions with prominent unions. She currently serves as the president of Service Employees International Union, California – the state’s largest union. Previously, she was the union’s senior vice president and political director. Before her work in labor relations, she served as a senior advisor for policy and public affairs in the Obama administration. Butler has also served in leadership positions in the United Domestic Workers of America, the SEIU United Long-Term Care Workers, and the SEIU Healthcare of California.
