from the House of Representatives.
McCarthy said the Republican party must remain focused on its shared principles. He said,” We need a message that unites us, not one that divides us. We must stay true to the Constitution and to the values of limited government, free enterprise and individual liberty that made our great nation.
He also expressed his sadness over the House losing its “conservative voice.” He said, “I am proud, however, of how our people rose above the partisan politics and worked to accomplish good. I was blessed to join forces with Members from both sides of the aisle to protect our Nation from catastrophic economic calamity and to reestablish the world’s most vibrant economy. We must continue to fight for good, no matter who’s in power.”
Finally, McCarthy commented on his future plans or lack thereof, “I do not intend to run for public office again,” he said. “Now is the time for each of us to focus on what we can do to ensure that our government serves the people, not the powerful.”
