According to a recent investigation by the U.S. based security firm FireEye, Vietnam has been trying to hack U.S. officials, including those at CNN, through posts made on the popular social media platform X. The hackers posted content meant to “influence, disrupt, and interfere” with U.S. government activities by pushing pro-Vietnam messages. FireEye said the hacks show “a pattern of compressed intrusion operations” by a foreign entity, and that “the activity bears many of the hallmarks of a Vietnamese government-backed intrusion operation.” The investigation did not identify who exactly was behind the campaign, though FireEye said “evidence points to one or more individuals associated with the Vietnam government.
