The Republican speaker nominee for the House of Representatives has condemned death threats made against Jordan holdouts, members of an extremist faction of conservatives opposed to House Speaker Paul Ryan. The Republican speaker nominee called the threats “despicable” and “unjustified” and said the House should take it seriously and “fully investigate the situation.”

The Jordan holdouts, named after their leader Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), are refusing to support Ryan in the upcoming speakership vote due to their disagreement with his policy positions. In recent days, several of the holdouts have reported receiving death threats via phone calls and social media messages.

The speaker nominee also expressed concern over how these threats will affect the House and its work, and vowed to create a culture of respect. He called on all members, regardless of their views on the speakership contest, to stand united and reject such anti-democratic tactics. He also reaffirmed his commitment to bipartisan cooperation and willingness to work with the Jordan holdouts.
