Sam Bankman-Fried, a prominent cryptocurrency startup executive, is expected to testify in a federal court in Delaware as a witness for the prosecution in a fraud trial. Bankman-Fried’s attorney, Avi Gesser, told CoinDesk that his client will appear at the trial of Vitaly Dubinin, a high-rolling online trader accused of attempting to defraud an American cryptocurrency exchange. Bankman-Fried is the CEO of FTX, a blockchain-powered derivatives service provider based out of the Cayman Islands. Dubinin reportedly attempted to manipulate FTX’s market through bogus trades. Gesser said that Bankman-Fried will appear as “an expert witness” and provide his opinion on the alleged fraud scheme. “He is looking forward to the opportunity to provide his expert testimony in the service of justice,” Gesser said. The trial is set to begin in April 2021.
