Apple has made a surprise decision to pause sales of some Apple Watch models prior to Christmas in order to settle a patent dispute. Company officials told press that they had received notification that a patent held by another company related to the display technology in its watches was being infringed upon by Apple. Despite the company’s efforts to settle the dispute outside of court, the adversary opted to move forward with a legal case.
Apple was forced to agree to temporarily pause sales of certain Apple Watch models as part of the agreement reached with the patent holders. The affected models include Series 3, 4, and 5, and all variants of the Watch Edition. The company assured customers that their safety and satisfaction are of the utmost importance and that it is working to quickly resolve the issue. It also offered refunds and exchanges to those affected by the temporary halt in sales. In the meantime, Apple is continuing to sell other Apple Watch models, including Series 6 and SE.
