Supreme Court declines to issue expedited ruling on Trump immunity case

On Monday, the Supreme Court declined to issue an expedited ruling on a case challenging the immunity President Donald Trump is granted from civil suits while in office. The case was brought by Summer Zervos, a former contestant on The Apprentice, claiming the president sexually assaulted her and lied about it.

The court was asked to hear the case on an expedited basis, which would have allowed for a speedier ruling than would normally happen. However, the court did not issue an expedited ruling, which means the case will now likely proceed through the lower courts and could eventually make its way to the Supreme Court sometime in the future.

The Supreme Court’s decision to decline an expedited ruling is likely a result of the fact that the justices are already dealing with a large backlog of cases, and therefore may not have been keen to weigh in on the case at this particular moment. Additionally, the court’s decision not to take up the case now also has the potential to impact the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, which could also factor into their decision-making.
