The announcement of an “anti-woke” chatbot that promised to fight back against online cancel culture has not gone as planned for Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
Earlier this month, Musk tweeted that he was working on a new chatbot — dubbed “The Woke Patriot” — that would be “a digital soldier on the culture wars.” The chatbot was intended to combat what Musk called “out of control censorship” by responding to left-wing messages with right-wing talking points.
However, in the weeks since announcing the chatbot, no updates have been released as to its development or features. A number of Twitter users have begun speculating that Musk has abandoned the project.
But even if the project was never released, the announcement caused an uproar online. Prior to the announcement, Musk was already facing criticism for his oftentimes brash and insensitive Twitter comments. This incident only served to further fan the flames, with many accusing Musk of playing into the Republican narrative of “anti-woke culture” in order to drum up support for the party before the 2020 election.
It is unclear if Musk will proceed with “The Woke Patriot” or if he has decided to move on from the project. Either way, the chatbot’s announcement has further compounded the accusations of Musk’s alleged dangerous tweets and ill-advised political commentary.
