Under current laws, driverless cars are currently not immune from traffic tickets in California. Traffic tickets can be issued to either the vehicle itself or the owner of the vehicle. However, members of California’s Legislative Assembly have introduced legislation that could potentially offer immunity to driverless cars if it is passed. This legislation would absolve autonomous cars from any violations of California’s traffic laws while the vehicle is operated in autonomous mode.
