In October 2018, US automotive giant Tesla announced a voluntary recall of about 123,000 Model S sedans produced between 2012 and 2018. The recall was necessary to check and, if necessary, replace the front driveshaft in the vehicles. According to the recall notice, the driveshaft could potentially fail due to corrosion and cause the doors to open inadvertently in the event of a crash.
Tesla would provide free inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the driveshaft at no cost to owners.
