The vice president and former president attended separate events where they paid tribute to the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Kamala Harris spoke at a memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where United Flight 93 crashed after passengers and crew tried to regain control of the plane from hijackers. She paid tribute to those on board, saying, “In a matter of minutes, in the most dire of circumstances, the 40 responded valiantly. They did not hesitate. They did not waver.”
