John Bolton, a former national security adviser under the Trump administration, has drawn a controversial comparison between Kash Patel, who was nominated by Donald Trump for a top role in the FBI, and a notable figure from Soviet-era Russia. Bolton compared Patel to Lavrentiy Beria, who served as the head of the Soviet secret police and was known as Stalin’s right-hand man.
In making this analogy, Bolton is suggesting that Patel would potentially use the proposed role at the FBI to exert authoritarian control and carry out Trump’s agenda without question, much as Beria did for Stalin. However, this is Bolton’s subjective viewpoint and other individuals may hold different perceptions about Patel’s nomination.
