Bitcoin ETF Outflows of $643 Million on 30 October End a…

US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $643.33 million in net outflows on October 30, ending four consecutive trading days of inflows and more than reversing everything the funds had collected earlier in the week.

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, IBIT, led the withdrawals with $233.70 million, followed by Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, FBTC, at $201.04 million, according to SoSoValue data.

The reversal matters because FinanceFeeds reported on October 30 that Bitcoin ETFs had entered the Binance security crisis on a four-day inflow streak. The October 29 flow data showed $17.07 million entering the products, but those orders were placed before the market had a full US trading session to respond to the Binance breach.

Friday provided that next data point, and it moved sharply in the opposite direction.

Friday’s $643 Million Bitcoin ETF Outflow in Numbers

Five US spot Bitcoin funds posted net redemptions on October 30.

IBIT lost $233.70 million, FBTC shed $201.04 million, ARK 21Shares’ ARKB recorded $129.55 million of outflows, Grayscale’s GBTC lost $53.32 million and Bitwise’s BITB recorded $25.72 million in withdrawals.

The remaining reporting Bitcoin funds recorded no net creations or redemptions for the session.

Total Bitcoin ETF trading volume reached about $6.35 billion, with IBIT accounting for approximately $5.21 billion. FBTC followed with roughly $529 million in volume and GBTC with about $204 million.

After the withdrawals, US spot Bitcoin ETFs held $98.14 billion in total net assets, equivalent to approximately 6.34% of Bitcoin’s market capitalization. Cumulative net inflows since the spot products began trading stood at about $56.98 billion.

Those totals remain large despite Friday’s redemptions. The October 30 print is therefore a reversal in daily fund demand, not evidence that investors have withdrawn anything close to the capital accumulated since the products launched.

IBIT and FBTC Accounted for Most of the Selling

BlackRock and Fidelity together accounted for about $434.7 million of Friday’s $643.3 million withdrawal, or roughly two-thirds of the day’s total.

The result is particularly notable for IBIT because BlackRock had been the main source of positive Bitcoin ETF flows earlier in the week.

On October 28, FinanceFeeds reported that IBIT supplied $136 million of the $137.3 million entering Bitcoin ETFs, or about 99% of that session’s net inflow.

Two days later, the same fund became the largest source of redemptions.

That change illustrates how quickly aggregate ETF flow readings can reverse. It also makes it difficult to treat several consecutive positive sessions as evidence of a durable allocation trend without seeing what happens when market conditions deteriorate.

Four Inflow Days Were Wiped Out in One Session

Bitcoin ETFs had collected approximately $440.7 million over the four sessions from October 26 through October 29.

The sequence began with $110.3 million on October 26, followed by $176 million on October 27, $137.3 million on October 28 and $17.07 million on October 29.

Friday’s $643.33 million withdrawal was therefore about $202.6 million larger than the entire four-day inflow run.

That leaves the five-session week net negative despite positive flows on four of its five trading days.

The timing also changes the interpretation of Thursday’s data. October 29’s modest inflow showed that ETF demand had remained positive immediately before the Binance incident became known. It did not show how ETF holders would behave once the security breach was part of the information set during US trading hours.

October 30 was the first full session to provide that reading.

ETF flow data alone cannot establish why investors redeemed shares, so the $643 million should not automatically be attributed to the Binance hack. The session also took place amid broader weakness across cryptocurrency and technology markets. What the data establish is that the positive streak ended decisively during the first full US session after the breach.

Bitcoin ETFs Finished October With Net Outflows

The final October numbers also change the monthly picture.

Farside Investors’ finalized daily table shows US spot Bitcoin ETFs recording approximately $515.9 million in net outflows across the 22 trading sessions in October.

That result came after a much stronger September, when the same funds attracted about $2.65 billion.

The October aggregate also hides a significant split between individual issuers. IBIT remained positive for the month despite Friday’s withdrawal, while Fidelity’s FBTC and ARK 21Shares’ ARKB recorded substantial monthly redemptions.

The uneven pattern was visible earlier in October as well. FinanceFeeds reported that Bitcoin, Ether and Solana ETFs lost about $1.25 billion combined during the week ended October 9, before Bitcoin funds later recovered part of those withdrawals.

October therefore did not produce one continuous institutional buying or selling trend. It produced repeated reversals, with large positive sessions followed by similarly large withdrawals.

Ether ETFs Were Selling at the Same Time

Bitcoin funds were not alone on October 30.

US spot Ether ETFs recorded another $155.85 million in net outflows, extending their withdrawal streak to five consecutive trading sessions.

BlackRock’s ETHA led the Ether redemptions with $76.64 million, followed by Grayscale’s Ethereum Mini Trust with $34.14 million, ETHE with $21.51 million and BlackRock’s ETHB with $19.51 million.

The five-day Ether ETF withdrawal total reached roughly $431.5 million. Total Ether ETF net assets stood near $13.22 billion after Friday’s session, with cumulative net inflows of approximately $12.29 billion.

Bitcoin and Ether products therefore finished the week in the same direction, even though their preceding flow patterns were different.

For Bitcoin ETFs, the important change is straightforward: four consecutive inflow days suggested demand had held up into the Binance shock, but the first full session after it produced a $643 million reversal. The next test is whether October 30 proves to be a one-session risk reduction or the beginning of another run of ETF redemptions.
