On July 19, 2020, the husband of Alaska state Representative Mary Peltola, Edward J. Peltola, died in a plane crash in Barron, Wisconsin. He was flying a Cessna 182 when it crashed near a residential neighborhood. There were no other passengers on the plane and no injuries were reported on the ground. Rep. Peltola made a statement saying that her husband was a loving and devoted husband and father, and that she was devastated and in shock. She also stated that her family thanked the community for their support during this difficult time.
