The House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to condemn remarks by Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib from Michigan over an ant-Israel comment. While Democrats tried to limit this show of ostracism by shifting the motion to a much softer rebuke of anti-Semitism in general, the Republican-led attempt to censure Tlaib passed with heavy bipartisan support. The 338-72 vote saw support from most House Democrats, including their leadership. It should be noted, however, that this censure was mainly symbolic and won’t have any official implications. Ultimately, the Democrats failed to dissuade the vote completely and, despite their best efforts, could not shield Tlaib from the censure.
