Pramila Jayapal’s younger sister, Geeta, is running to represent Washington’s 9th District in Congress in the November 2020 election. Geeta Jayapal is an attorney and former teacher who has worked with the Seattle Mayor’s office and the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. She has also served as the Executive Director of the Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs. Geeta has cited her sister’s accomplishments as a motivation to run for office, saying she hopes to build upon her accomplishments. If elected, the two sisters would be the first sibling pairing to serve simultaneously in Congress.
