Weiss says he ‘wasn’t granted’ special attorney authority in Hunter Biden probe despite request: transcript

According to a newly released transcript of a private deposition given by former high-ranking Justice Department official Bruce Weiss, the former head of organized crime and gang section of the agency’s criminal division said that he did not receive special attorney authority when it came to the investigation involving Hunter Biden.

Weiss testified that he had requested special attorney authority while he was a career prosecutor, but the response he received from the Associate Deputy Attorney General suggested that he was not granted that authority for the Hunter Biden investigation.

Additionally, Weiss said that he was not given any special instructions in performing the investigation, such as turning over any documents he had uncovered for review by a higher-ranking Justice Department official. He said he was simply directed to follow the normal “process” and to work with the FBI.
