Body of missing Israeli woman Shani Gabay found, mayor says: ‘Bitter news’

The body of missing Israeli woman Shani Gabay was located and identified by search teams on Wednesday, according to a statement released by the mayor of Kfar Saba, Israel.

The statement, issued by Mayor Yisrael Zinger, said that “with great sorrow” they could confirm the “bitter news of the discovery of Shani Gabay’s body.”

Gabay, 38, was reported missing last week after she left her home in Kfar Saba, but did not show up for work at a nearby medical center. Search teams scoured the area for several days looking for any sign of the missing woman.

In his statement, Mayor Zinger said the search teams worked ceaselessly and with the utmost perseverance to find Gabay and added that “the family has our full compassion and support.”

The statement thanked the police, security forces, and search and rescue teams for their efforts to find Gabay and said that even though the news was heartbreaking, it was important to receive a definitive answer.

No details have yet been released regarding the cause of Gabay’s death. A police investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.
