Michigan Senate candidate says he was offered $20 million to challenge Rep. Tlaib instead

The Detroit Free Press reported that Michigan Senate Candidate John James claimed he was offered $20 million during the Republican primary to challenge Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib.

James said he turned the offer down, saying that money should not determine who is elected into office. He emphasized that his decision was based on his ideals and values, and that he was running for the people of Michigan. James did not name the individual or entity who made the offer.

Tlaib won the general election and will begin her term as the Representative for Michigan’s 13th district in January.

James’ campaign has yet to release a detailed statement on the reported offer.
