According to reports, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has spent roughly $23 million on investigations involving President Donald Trump or his associates since he took office. It has also spent $6.4 million on an investigation into Hunter Biden, the son of President-elect Joe Biden.
Of the $23 million spent on investigations related to Trump, roughly $7 million had been spent on special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Roughly $15.8 million was spent on domestic investigations, such as Cohen’s hush money investigation and the legal expenses for other Trump associates.
The $6.4 million spent on the Hunter Biden investigation includes money spent on travel requirements, as well as documents and electronic media collection and production.
The DOJ is not required to publicly disclose the costs of its investigations, and it’s impossible to know how the $23 million figure compares to similar probes in the past. Nonetheless, the amount spent on investigations related to Trump and his associates is significant and could be seen as a reflection of the intensity of the DOJ’s investigations.
