Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to undergo nonsurgical procedure, Deputy Kathleen Hicks will assume control


Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will undergo a nonsurgical procedure and during this time, Deputy Kathleen Hicks will take over his duties. While details of the procedure have not been disclosed, it is stated that the procedure falls under the 25th Amendment, which allows for temporary transfer of power in case the primary office holder is incapacitated. The Department of Defense assures the public that Secretary Austin’s condition is not critical and he is expected to resume his duties post recovery. Until then, Hicks will manage Secretary Austin’s responsibilities and commitments.
