BlackRock Q3: What IBIT and ETHA Add to a $15 Trillion-Plus…

BlackRock is preparing to release its third-quarter 2026 earnings on October 14, placing renewed attention on its cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds and their contribution to a business managing more than $15 trillion.

The company ended the second quarter with $15.34 trillion in assets under management (AUM), compared with $12.53 trillion a year earlier. It attracted $192 billion in net inflows during the quarter, bringing first-half inflows to a record $321 billion.

During July’s earnings call, BlackRock Chief Financial Officer Martin Small disclosed approximately $110 billion in AUM connected to digital assets, establishing a benchmark for evaluating the business’s subsequent expansion.

Although that amount represented only about 0.7% of BlackRock’s total AUM, its significance extends beyond the assets themselves. Cryptocurrency ETFs generate recurring management fees and provide BlackRock with exposure to a rapidly developing segment of financial markets.

The third-quarter results are scheduled for release before US markets open, followed by an earnings conference call at 7:30 a.m. Eastern Time.

IBIT and ETHA Drive BlackRock’s Crypto ETF Business

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) have become central components of its cryptocurrency investment offerings.

According to BlackRock’s published fund disclosures, IBIT held approximately $67.31 billion in net assets on September 24, while ETHA reported approximately $8.69 billion on October 9.

These figures demonstrate the scale of BlackRock’s cryptocurrency products, although the different reporting dates prevent their combination into an exact quarter-end valuation.

Both ETFs charge annual sponsor fees of 0.25%, providing a recurring revenue stream linked to assets held in the funds. At unchanged asset levels, their combined assets of approximately $76 billion would imply roughly $190 million in annualized gross sponsor fees before expenses and other adjustments.

However, ETF assets fluctuate with cryptocurrency prices and investor flows. AUM growth therefore does not necessarily indicate equivalent new investor demand, while annualized fees should not be confused with realized quarterly revenue.

BlackRock’s broader financial performance provides context. Second-quarter revenue increased 31% year over year, while adjusted diluted earnings per share reached $13.91. The company’s iShares franchise also surpassed $6 trillion in AUM.

Digital Assets Could Become a $500 Million Revenue Business

BlackRock’s cryptocurrency ambitions extend beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs into tokenization, stablecoin reserve management and blockchain-based investment infrastructure.

During its second-quarter earnings call, management outlined a target of generating $500 million in annual digital-assets revenue by 2030. The company identified three priorities: connecting traditional and decentralized finance, managing stablecoin reserves, and tokenizing conventional investment products.

BlackRock disclosed that it already managed approximately $60 billion in reserves for Circle, the issuer of USDC. Its tokenized investment offerings, including BUIDL, provide another avenue for expansion. Wall Street analysts expect BlackRock to report approximately $7.42 billion in third-quarter revenue and $14.32 in earnings per share, according to estimates reported ahead of the announcement.

For investors, the key question is whether IBIT, ETHA and BlackRock’s broader digital-assets operations can translate expanding adoption into material, recurring earnings.

The upcoming results should provide another measure of that progress, although the company’s confirmed third-quarter digital-asset AUM and associated revenue contribution remain undisclosed ahead of publication.
