Newly Created Polymarket Accounts Pocket Over $100,000 on…

Polymarket is investigating a series of unusually timed and profitable bets on Israel’s October 27 election after hundreds of newly created accounts wagered on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu retaining office and his Likud party winning the most seats shortly before polls closed. The activity has prompted scrutiny from the platform and blockchain analytics firms, with some traders reportedly withdrawing more than $100,000 in combined profits.

Bloomberg’s analysis of Polymarket’s public blockchain ledger identified hundreds of recently created accounts that placed positions shortly before voting ended on Tuesday. Those trades quickly moved into profit after some exit polls indicated that Likud had secured more seats than earlier reports suggested. Other wallets continued to hold substantial unrealized gains.

What Triggered the Investigation?

Polymarket’s internal investigative team is reviewing dozens of newly created wallets involved in the election markets, according to Bloomberg. The investigation focuses on positions backing Netanyahu’s continued premiership and Likud emerging as the largest party.

Blockchain analytics firms Polysights and Bubblemaps independently flagged the activity as suspicious and began examining the transactions. Bubblemaps told Reuters that it identified 101 Polymarket accounts funded for the first time on election day, before voting ended.

“A few have already sold out for a profit after the exit polls,” a Bubblemaps representative told Reuters.

The 101 accounts identified by Bubblemaps should not automatically be treated as a separate group from the hundreds identified in Bloomberg’s analysis. Both findings point to unusual funding and trading activity around the same election markets, but the available information does not establish the total number of distinct traders involved.

The reported withdrawals exceed $100,000 collectively, while other positions remain open. However, the investigation has not established whether the traders possessed confidential information or simply anticipated the election outcome more accurately than other participants.

Why Are Suspicious Wallets Not Proof of Insider Trading?

Polymarket’s international platform records transactions on a public blockchain, allowing researchers to examine wallet creation dates, funding activity, position sizes and trading times. This transparency makes it possible to identify unusual patterns without requiring access to the platform’s internal transaction database.

However, identifying a newly funded wallet that places a profitable election bet shortly before polls close does not establish who controls the account or how that person obtained the information. Multiple wallets may also belong to the same trader, while independently conducted research can produce unusually accurate predictions.

Polymarket’s published market-integrity rules prohibit trading on stolen confidential information when its use breaches an existing duty of trust, as well as trading on prohibited confidential tips. The platform nevertheless permits independently generated research based on publicly available information, including privately commissioned polling.

The distinction matters because unusual timing and profitability are indicators for investigation rather than sufficient evidence of misconduct. An earlier analysis of 34,000 Polymarket trades flagged by Polysights identified the same limitation: blockchain patterns can reveal potential information advantages but cannot independently establish their source.

Investor Takeaway

On-chain transparency improves detection, but identifying the wallet owner and proving access to prohibited information remain essential enforcement challenges.

How Is Regulatory Scrutiny Expanding?

The Israel investigation arrives as prediction markets face growing questions about their ability to prevent trading based on confidential government and corporate information.

In April, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission filed its first insider-trading complaint involving event contracts against a U.S. Army service member accused of using classified information about the operation to capture former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. The CFTC alleged that the defendant generated more than $404,000 through Polymarket trades. The allegations remain subject to legal proceedings.

In May, the CFTC also filed a complaint against a Google employee accused of using confidential company information to trade on Polymarket’s Year in Search contracts, allegedly generating approximately $1.2 million in profits.

Congress has separately examined whether prediction-market operators have adequate systems for verifying customer identities, enforcing geographic restrictions and detecting suspicious trading. The House Oversight Committee’s inquiry into Polymarket and Kalshi has focused on these safeguards, as discussed in the congressional investigation into prediction-market surveillance.

More recently, the CFTC reopened scrutiny of Polymarket’s compliance with its 2022 settlement restricting access to its international platform by U.S. users. That investigation concerns geographic controls and customer protections rather than the Israeli election trades, but adds another regulatory issue for the operator.

Investor Takeaway

Repeated investigations could increase compliance costs and pressure prediction markets to strengthen identity verification, surveillance and restrictions on sensitive event contracts.

What Should Market Participants Watch Next?

The immediate question is whether Polymarket and the analytics firms can connect the suspicious wallets to identifiable individuals and establish whether any traders accessed information they were prohibited from using.

Polysights and Polymarket had not publicly disclosed conclusive findings in the available reporting, while representatives for Polymarket and Polysights did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Bubblemaps confirmed its initial findings but did not establish that the accounts had engaged in insider trading.

For prediction-market operators, the case extends beyond identifying profitable trades. Their ability to distinguish independent forecasting from prohibited information use will increasingly determine whether regulators and institutional participants consider their surveillance arrangements adequate as election and geopolitical contracts attract more trading activity.
