The wellness trend is breaking into the cruise world

Often described as a type of tourism in which travelers can either maintain or are inspired to kick off a health-focused lifestyle, wellness travel is a major market that is expected to be worth over $2.4 trillion by 2035.

The loose definition of the term means that wellness can be interpreted as everything from a spa resort to various yoga retreats and itineraries with time spent out in nature.

Wellness is particularly easy to market in the hotel space as many of the amenities present at resorts, such as pools and spas, naturally fall into the growing interest in turning a stay in another city into the most relaxing and health-forward experience possible.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises to launch seven sailings focusing on wellness at sea

While the cruise industry tends to be less pliable to passing trends due to the need for long-term planning and consistency, luxury cruise line Regent Seven Seas Cruises just announced a sailing that it hopes to market as the world’s first wellness cruise.

The Spotlight Voyage on Wellness & Longevity cruise will depart on the cruise line’s newest Seven Seas Prestige ship on August 21, 2027 and take 10 days to sail the Mediterranean Sea from Italy’s Trieste to Spain’s Barcelona.

The 850-passenger luxury liner was built by Fincantieri shipbuilding group outside Venice and is set to take its maiden voyage from Barcelona and Miami in December 2026.

The wellness itinerary was developed in partnership with British skin care Elemis and will offer guest various beauty, fitness and mindfulness classes as well as a menu inspired by the Blue Zone dietary pattern that prioritizes whole plant-based foods that has become increasingly popular among wellness fans in recent years.

“Blending wellness experiences with destination discovery, the sailing offers guests a unique opportunity to explore practical and aspirational approaches to living well,” Regent describes the wellness itinerary that, depending on uptake, may either be a one-time opportunity or be brought back for future sailings.

The wellness itinerary is part of six other themed sailings that Regent unveiled for its 2027 summer sailing schedule. The others include an epicurean voyage with established food journalist and cookbook author Mark Bittman departing from Edinburgh on July 14 as well as several wine cruises through Italy and Spain.

A sailing for those with heritage in the British Isles and Ireland has also been developed in partnership with Ancestry.com. This sailing will depart from London on July 2 for stops in Liverpool, Cork and the Isle of Man over the 12-day itinerary aboard Regent’s Voyager ship.

“Spotlight Voyages represent the evolution of luxury travel — guests are looking not only to see the world, but also to engage through their personal interests and passions,” Regent Seven Seas Cruises President Wesley D’Silva said of the new itineraries.

Initially launched out of Miami as Radisson Seven Seas Cruises in 1992, Regent Seven Seas is a luxury cruise line with ships that carry between 500 and 800 passengers. Cruises start at approximately $800 per passenger per night.
