Nike Stock Jumps 5.2% and Closes Above 12 of the 15…

Nike stock closed at $37.14 on Thursday, a gain of $1.84 or 5.21% on a session that ran between $35.94 and $37.73, according to StockAnalysis. That leaves Nike stock roughly 16% above the $31.97 intraday low reached on 2 October and about 47% below the $70.44 high of the past year.

No Nike announcement accounts for the move, and the only corporate news to land during the session was a decision by Moody’s Ratings to cut its outlook on the company to negative. Benzinga put the bid in Nike stock down to traders moving money away from technology and artificial intelligence names as a broad selloff in the sector ran into a second session.

Thursday’s Close Put Nike Stock Above 12 of the 15 Post-Earnings Price Targets

Almost every firm covering Nike stock cut its target after the fiscal 2027 first quarter landed on 1 October with $11.21 billion of revenue against an LSEG consensus of $11.32 billion. Fifteen of those revised targets are on the record, and Thursday’s close sits above twelve of them.

Only three firms that reset their numbers after the quarter still carry a target on Nike stock above $37.14. Jefferies holds a Buy at $60, BTIG a Buy at $50 and Bernstein an Outperform at $45. Barclays, which kept an Overweight rating, trimmed to $37, a dollar under where the shares finished the week’s fourth session.

Two consensus readings of Nike stock disagree about how much room is left. MarketBeat shows a Reduce rating and a $41.07 average across 39 analysts, with 21 holds and 10 sells. StockAnalysis puts the average at $37.67 across 42 analysts and calls the consensus a Hold. The gap of almost 9% between the two averages reflects how many pre-earnings targets each aggregator still carries.

Investor Takeaway

Nike stock closed above 12 of the 15 price targets published since the 1 October quarter, which leaves the rally dependent on analysts raising those numbers rather than the shares growing into them.

Benzinga Traced the Bid to Money Leaving AI Names in a Second Down Session

Benzinga framed Thursday as a rotation story, with Nike advancing while traders pulled capital out of technology and AI exposure. That selloff had already knocked Nebius down 10% and IREN down 12% in the previous session, and the same defensive shift showed up in gold holding above $4,100 through the week.

Investing.com offered a wider list for the move in Nike stock and pointed to no single catalyst. Its reporting cited a technical rebound after the early-October downgrades, buying from turnaround-focused institutions, anticipation of the November investor day, and a rotation into value and dividend names. A 4.42% dividend yield puts Nike stock in that second group whether or not the payout survives the restructuring.

Moody’s Turned Negative on the Same Day the Shares Rose 5.2%

Moody’s Ratings affirmed Nike’s A2 senior unsecured rating and its Prime-1 commercial paper program on Thursday while moving the outlook from stable to negative, SGB Online reported. The agency tied the change to a “longer than previously anticipated turnaround” and said it expects the company’s strategic actions “to pressure earnings for the remainder of its fiscal year ending May 2027.” It named Greater China as a key weakness, citing revenue down 26% on a currency-neutral basis in the first quarter.

The lowest published target on Nike stock belongs to BNP Paribas, where Laurent Vasilescu holds an Underperform at $19. Berenberg’s Nick Anderson took the stock from Hold to Sell on 6 October and cut his target from $49 to $27.50, writing that Nike’s plan to organize sportswear around smaller focus areas “reads as an admission that market structure has shifted irreversibly against Nike,” according to StreetInsider. Goldman Sachs analyst Brooke Roach has been at Neutral since April and cut her target to $30 on 2 October.

Investor Takeaway

Moody’s turned negative on Nike’s debt during the same session the equity gained 5.21%, a split between the credit read and the share price that has not resolved.

Investor Day on 16 and 17 November Follows a 47% Slide From the $70.44 High

Nike has set its investor day for 16 and 17 November, when management will lay out the next phase of growth and the financial plan behind it, the company told employees on 1 October. That session also covers Pace, the operating model overhaul targeting about $2.5 billion in cumulative pre-tax savings through fiscal 2031 against roughly $1.0 billion of charges. Teams move into a three-geography structure in fiscal 2028, and decisions on affected roles begin in calendar 2027.

The next two months for Nike stock turn on two numbers, the dividend and the October low. The $1.64 annual dividend still exceeds the top of the $1.15 to $1.35 adjusted earnings guidance for fiscal 2027, and that gap is the heart of whether the shares are a turnaround trade or a value trap. The $31.97 low from 2 October is the level the market retested once already, and the fiscal second quarter report due in December is the next hard data point before it is tested again.
