CoreWeave’s Bonds Now Yield 15%, and CoreWeave Stock Spent…

CoreWeave stock closed down 15.46% at $65.78 on Wednesday, and the sell-off followed the bond market rather than leading it. The company’s unsecured notes due 2032 had already fallen below 80 cents on the dollar, carrying a yield above 15% against roughly 9% over the summer. CoreWeave stock fell a further 5.35% to $62.26 in Thursday’s premarket.

Equity holders spent Wednesday reacting to a price move that credit investors had been making for weeks. The gap between the two is the story, and the second-quarter accounts explain most of it.

The Bond Market Moved Before CoreWeave Stock Did

A viral chart of the 2032 notes posted by Chamath Palihapitiya put the repricing in front of equity investors on Wednesday, and the selling spread across AI infrastructure. Oracle closed 8.8% lower and Dell 11.3%, while the neocloud group fell on a separate Gartner forecast about consolidation by 2030 published the same day.

Yields rise when prices fall, so a 15% yield on paper due in 2032 is lenders repricing the risk of being repaid. CoreWeave stock had held up through that drift, closing at $82.08 as recently as 9 October, when a 240 megawatt agreement in India failed to offset a 7.77% fall tied to revised OpenAI revenue figures. The equity caught up in a single session.

A 59% Adjusted EBITDA Margin Becomes a $626 Million Net Loss

The second-quarter results behind CoreWeave stock show why the two markets read the same company differently. Revenue more than doubled to $2.575 billion, and adjusted EBITDA reached $1.510 billion at a 59% margin. Equity investors anchor on that margin.

The two costs adjusted EBITDA removes are depreciation and interest, which are the two that decide whether the debt behind CoreWeave stock gets serviced. Source: CoreWeave Q2 2026 earnings release · Chart: FinanceFeeds

Credit investors start from the bottom of that same income statement rather than the top. Depreciation and amortization took $1.393 billion out of the quarter and net interest expense took $640 million, up from $267 million a year earlier. Adjusted operating income was $128 million, so interest ran at five times what the business earned after its operating costs. The quarter ended in a net loss of $626 million, or $1.14 a share.

The balance sheet at 30 June carries recourse and non-recourse debt of about $35.1 billion against $5.5 billion of cash, inside total liabilities of $72.0 billion and total assets of $77.1 billion. That leaves $5.0 billion of stockholders’ equity supporting the capital structure, which is the arithmetic behind the warnings about CoreWeave stock being subordinate to a very large amount of borrowing. Operating lease liabilities add a further $16.3 billion of contractual commitments outside the debt figure, and deferred revenue of $9.7 billion sits against capacity still to be delivered.

Investor Takeaway

Net interest expense of $640 million against adjusted operating income of $128 million means CoreWeave stock sits behind an interest bill running at roughly five times quarterly operating earnings, which is the figure the adjusted EBITDA margin removes.

CDS Readings Run From 368 to Above 1,000 Basis Points

The credit-default-swap market is the most quoted evidence against CoreWeave stock this week, and the readings do not agree. Bloomberg data cited by Startup Fortune put five-year spreads at 368 basis points on 6 October, widening to 643 basis points by that Friday. A Reuters explainer published Thursday put them above 1,000 basis points, with S&P Global Market Intelligence data implying roughly a 63% chance of default over five years against about 30% a year ago.

Those numbers deserve careful handling, and the Reuters explainer supplies several reasons why. Credit default swaps trade over the counter without a central clearing house, and average daily trades even in large names can run to single digits, so small transactions move quoted prices. Reuters also notes that spreads in AI names reflect concern about how fast the investment converts to profit rather than a signal that any company has defaulted or said it might. Rising protection costs can then feed back into borrowing costs, which is a loop rather than a forecast.

Intrator’s $104 Billion Backlog Against S&P’s April Outlook

Chief executive Mike Intrator answered in a memo to staff reviewed by Bloomberg, writing that periods when “the market misunderstands and acts irrationally” are part of building a company. He pointed to the revenue backlog, which the second-quarter release put at approximately $104 billion as of 30 June, with more than $25 billion of net new customer commitments added in the early part of the third quarter, and said it “more than supports all of our debt obligations.”

The ratings position has not caught up with either side of the argument. S&P Global Ratings affirmed CoreWeave at B+ and revised its outlook to positive on 10 April, and no later action appears on the public record. A positive outlook on a single-B credit sits oddly beside a swaps market quoting four figures, and the reconciliation is timing, because April predates both the summer debt issuance and this month’s repricing.

Sell-side opinion has split along that same line between the credit view and the equity view. Gil Luria at D.A. Davidson, who holds a Neutral rating and a $100 target after cutting it from $175 in May, said on Wednesday that “the equity value is going to be zero” if the AI investment cycle turns, while adding that he still expects demand to hold. Deutsche Bank kept a Buy and a $150 target, calling the sell-off excessive and short of company-specific cause. Bernstein had already singled the company out as the neocloud most exposed to an AI slowdown in September, when CoreWeave stock and Nebius had each shed about a fifth of their value in a month.

Investor Takeaway

Five-year CDS readings spanning 368 to above 1,000 basis points across two weeks and two data providers argue for treating any single implied default probability as one provider’s model rather than a market consensus on CoreWeave stock.
