CRCL recovered from an opening slide on Wednesday, trading at $77.03 and up 2.41% at 16:18 GMT+1 after dipping to $72.90 at 15:59. The stock had fallen as far as 3.08% below Tuesday’s $75.22 close before buyers stepped in, per TradingView.
The Circle Q3 report that moved it looks strong on the top line and weaker underneath. Total revenue and reserve income of $864.9 million grew 16.9% year over year, but $182 million of that came from a one-off presale of the ARC token, according to the earnings release. Circle Q3 disclosures also included a workforce reduction of about 5%.
CRCL ends the five sessions 3.09% higher, a gain that sits inside a 7.46% decline over a month and a 32.36% fall over a year. Source: TradingViewThe $182 Million Line That Reverses the Headline
Circle Q3 revenue grew by $125.1 million in dollar terms against the prior-year quarter. The ARC presale alone contributed $182 million, which is 1.45 times the entire increase. Strip it out and total revenue and reserve income was $682.9 million against $739.8 million a year earlier, a decline of 7.7%.
Other revenue in the Circle Q3 accounts tells the same story more bluntly. The $207.3 million reported was up 627%, but excluding the presale it was $25.3 million, down 11.4% from $28.5 million. The release attributes that shortfall to lower subscription and services revenue.

Reserve income, the interest Circle earns on the assets backing USDC, fell 7.5% to $657.6 million. The release blames a 61 basis point drop in the reserve return rate to 3.5%, partly offset by 8% growth in average USDC in circulation. Every further cut by the Federal Reserve feeds straight into that line.
Circle Q3 reserve income has now stalled for three quarters. It peaked at $733 million in Q4 2025 and has stayed below $670 million since. The company has defended its USDC economics after $1.4 billion in first-half revenue, and these figures show why the question keeps returning.
Distribution costs compound the squeeze, because Circle keeps only part of the interest it earns. The company paid $409.2 million in distribution and transaction costs against $657.6 million of reserve income, so 62.2% of the interest it earns goes out the door to partners, chiefly Coinbase. The release puts the resulting net reserve margin at 38%.
USDC Circulation Is Flat and Market Share Slipped
End-of-period USDC in circulation was $73.9 billion, unchanged year over year. Average circulation rose 8% to $73.3 billion, so the growth happened mid-quarter rather than at the close.
Stablecoin market share ended the quarter at 27%, down 183 basis points, measured against dollar-backed stablecoins above $100 million in circulation per CoinMarketCap. Circle minted $104 billion of USDC and redeemed $104 billion over the quarter, growth of 31% and 54% respectively, so redemptions rose faster than issuance.
Investor Takeaway
The ARC presale is the whole of the Circle Q3 growth story, so the underlying run rate matters more than the headline 16.9%.
Circle Cut About 5% of Staff and Took a $9.1 Million Charge
The reduction is “designed to better align our organizational structure with our operating model and strategic priorities,” in the company’s own words. Restructuring expenses in the Circle Q3 accounts came to $9.145 million, consisting mainly of notice period and severance payments, employee benefits and related costs.
A second and less visible line sits alongside it in the same reconciliation. Stock-based compensation carried a negative $5.7 million from forfeited restricted stock units tied to the restructuring, so the cut lowered reported compensation expense as well as headcount. Circle employs roughly 1,100 people on TradingView’s figure, which puts 5% somewhere near 55 roles. The company last cut staff in 2023, when it began layoffs despite expansion plans in Asia.
Guidance Implies Other Revenue Drops Back to $30 Million
Circle guided full-year other revenue to between $310 million and $330 million, a range it says includes recognized ARC presale revenue. Nine-month other revenue was already $282.5 million. That leaves $27.5 million to $47.5 million implied for the fourth quarter, against $207.3 million in the third.
The company’s own guidance therefore returns other revenue to roughly its pre-presale level within a single quarter.
Four quarters near $35 million, one quarter at $207 million, and a guided return to the old level, which is what a one-off looks like on a chart. Source: Circle Q3 2026 earnings release · Chart: FinanceFeedsPayments Volume and Margins Moved the Right Way
Several measures in the Circle Q3 results improved on their own merits. USDC on-chain transaction volume reached $13.9 trillion, up 49%, and annualized payment volume on Circle Payments Network hit $41.3 billion. Revenue less distribution costs rose 55% to $453 million and that margin widened 1,291 basis points to 52%, though presale revenue carries no distribution cost and flatters the comparison.
Profitability in the Circle Q3 accounts reads better than the headline net income figure suggests. Net income from continuing operations rose 5.4% to $226 million, while pre-tax income rose 49.1%, because the year-ago quarter carried a $61.3 million tax benefit. Diluted earnings per share went from $0.64 to $0.84. Basic earnings per share fell from $0.93 to $0.89, since basic share count rose 10.1% as dilutive securities converted into ordinary shares.
Circle Q3 also brought several structural moves. The company agreed to buy Singapore cross-border payments platform Tazapay, which carries more than $25 billion in annualized volume and closes in 2027, and launched the Arc public mainnet on 16 September. Binance agreed a $100 million equity stake on 22 September, buying Class A stock at $80.84 a share, which is above where CRCL trades now. That came five weeks before the exchange disclosed a $6.3 billion security breach. Circle has separately asked for changes to MiCA stablecoin reserve rules in the EU, where it issues the euro-backed EURC.
Investor Takeaway
Watch the Q4 print against the implied $27.5 million to $47.5 million of other revenue, because that quarter shows the Circle Q3 business without a presale propping up the comparison.
