MSTR Climbs 4% After Bitcoin Low Cut Strategy’s Cushion to…

MSTR rose 4.03% to $141.09 on Wednesday, recovering alongside bitcoin after an overnight slide came close to wiping out Strategy’s paper profit on its whole bitcoin position. The stock was up $5.46 at 15:50 GMT+1, per TradingView, against a market capitalization of $59.63 billion.

Bitcoin fell to $75,653 at 04:09 GMT+1. That was $202 above the $75,451 average cost Strategy disclosed in its 2 November 8-K. Across 849,327 coins, it left the company about $171.6 million above aggregate purchase price, a cushion of 0.27% on a $64.08 billion position. Bitcoin has since recovered to $78,195, which widens the gap back to roughly $2.33 billion.

The Cushion Fell to $171 Million Overnight

Nothing in the 2 November filing points to forced selling, and no covenant turns on the price of bitcoin. What the low did was compress the arithmetic MSTR holders are buying into, because the equity is a leveraged claim on a stack carried at $64.08 billion.

The cushion is wider now than it was when FinanceFeeds last measured it on 2 November. The gap then was about $1.8 billion with bitcoin at $77,567 against a $75,446 basis. Wednesday’s recovery leaves it near $2.33 billion, or 3.64%. The squeeze lasted hours rather than days.

MSTR Bought 811 Bitcoin Above Today’s Price

Strategy acquired 811 bitcoin for $65.5 million between 26 October and 1 November, at an average of $80,846 including fees. That tranche is about 3.28% underwater at the current price, a paper loss near $2.15 million.

Strategy funded the purchase by selling 1,178,552 MSTR shares for $164.0 million net. Of that, $65.5 million went into bitcoin and $98.5 million into dollar cash.

Investor Takeaway

The 0.27% cushion is what MSTR holders are actually exposed to, because it shows how little room the average cost leaves after a 9.38% month in bitcoin.

Strategy Spent More Defending STRC Than Buying Bitcoin

The same filing shows 2,092,035 STRC shares repurchased for $208.2 million. That works out at $99.52 a share against a $100 par value. Michael Saylor has pledged to keep STRC at or above par, and buying just under it is how the pledge gets enforced.

The figure is 3.2 times what went into bitcoin that week. Counting both lines, $273.7 million left the balance sheet against $164.0 million raised, a net drain of $109.7 million.

The STRC buyback alone exceeded everything Strategy raised from stock sales that week, leaving the balance sheet $109.7 million lighter across both outflows. Source: Strategy 8-K · Chart: FinanceFeeds

Remaining Buyback Capacity Runs to $1.75 Billion

The 8-K puts $748.6 million still available under the preferred repurchase program and $1.0 billion under the MSTR repurchase program. Authorization is not cash, so those figures describe permission rather than funding.

At-the-market programs give Strategy far more funding capacity than those two authorizations suggest. MSTR stock had $18.62 billion available on 1 November and STRC $17.51 billion, with a further $7.73 billion across STRD, STRK and STRF. FinanceFeeds has covered the $30 billion firepower framing and, separately, how enterprise mNAV slipped under 1.

Next Monday’s 8-K Covers the Election Week

Strategy discloses purchases weekly, and the filing due on 9 November will cover 2 to 8 November. It will show whether the company bought into the low, or paused as it did in September. Its Q3 results on 29 October carried a $20.9 billion bitcoin fair-value gain and net leverage of 2.4%. Bitcoin has fallen 6.42% from its 30 September close of $83,556.14 since then.

Analysts remain split on MSTR. B. Riley Securities kept a Buy and cut its target to $180 from $195 on 3 November, while H.C. Wainwright reiterated a Buy at $250. The stock is down 14.22% over a month and 44.63% over a year, though it holds a 47.06% gain across three months.

Investor Takeaway

The 9 November 8-K is the next hard datapoint for MSTR, and the STRC line will show whether defending the preferred keeps outranking bitcoin purchases.
