Silver Price Today: About $52.60 Thursday as Dollar Sits…

Spot silver traded around $52.57 an ounce early Thursday, extending a rebound from last week’s 11-month low as the dollar weakened after the US midterm elections. Kitco’s market screen showed silver at $52.57 at 1:28 a.m. Eastern on 5 November, alongside gold at $4,126.50. At those same-time prices, the gold-silver ratio was about 78.5. Friday’s payrolls report may determine whether the recovery continues.
The immediate story is a rebound from liquidation, amplified by a softer dollar and lower Treasury yields. Yet silver has a larger industrial-demand component than gold, so it can react differently if employment data changes the outlook for economic growth. Its rise is therefore more than a currency trade, but a one-day price jump does not establish that the underlying trend has reversed.

Where Silver Trades

Kitco quoted silver at $52.57 on Thursday morning, up 0.91% at that snapshot, with gold at $4,126.50. Prices move continuously, so the figures are a timestamped market reference rather than a fixed daily close. The ratio of the two prices stood near 78.5, meaning it took about 78.5 ounces of silver to equal the value of one ounce of gold.

The ratio helps put silver’s performance in context: a fall means silver is outperforming gold, while a rise means it is lagging. It narrowed on Monday’s silver-led bounce, widened on Tuesday, narrowed again during Wednesday’s rally and returned to about 78.5 Thursday morning. It does not show whether either metal is cheap, but reveals which is leading.

From the 11-Month Low to Now

Silver ended Friday, 30 October, at $49.13, its lowest close in 11 months, after a sharp sell-off forced investors to raise cash. On Monday, 2 November, it gained 3.61% to $51.66, according to USAGOLD’s daily market report. It then slipped to $50.32 on Tuesday before rebounding with gold after Democrats won control of Congress. By Thursday’s Kitco snapshot, silver was roughly 7% above Friday’s close.

The sequence shows why the move should be described as a recovery rather than a straight-line rally. Silver’s climb on Monday came as oil prices fell ahead of the election; Wednesday’s stronger advance came after the dollar and yields dropped. The metal has retraced part of the forced selling, but remains sensitive to both investor flows and the economic outlook.

The Dollar After the Midterms

The US dollar index fell to 101.25 on Thursday, its lowest level since 30 September, according to Reuters, extending a decline after Democrats won both chambers. Lower oil prices and Treasury yields contributed to the move. A softer dollar can make dollar-priced metals less expensive for overseas buyers.

That support can reverse quickly. The dollar’s reaction partly reflects positioning and immediate interpretations of the result, rather than a confirmed change in US growth or monetary policy. Reuters quoted a currency strategist cautioning that market moves may reflect positioning or overreaction. Friday’s data may provide a more direct test of the dollar if payroll growth or wages materially alter rate expectations.

Gold Above $4,000 and Friday’s Jobs Report

Gold remained above $4,000 as silver traded near $52.57; FinanceFeeds tracked the gold rebound. Gold is more directly a monetary and reserve asset, while silver also has industrial uses. If growth expectations deteriorate, gold may retain a safe-haven bid while industrial-demand concerns weigh on silver.

The BLS is scheduled to release the October Employment Situation at 8:30 a.m. Eastern on Friday, 6 November. Strong payrolls or wage growth could lift yields and the dollar, challenging metals. A weaker report could extend the dollar decline, although a sharp deterioration might also raise doubts about manufacturing and industrial consumption. Traders will be watching not only the headline jobs number, but also unemployment and average hourly earnings.

Silver’s early-Thursday level shows that buyers have returned after a steep liquidation, with the dollar’s post-election slide adding support. But the market is now approaching a data event that can affect both sides of silver’s demand profile: its appeal as a precious metal and its sensitivity to growth. Takeaway: The rebound has carried silver about 7% above last Friday’s close, but holding above $52 will depend on whether Friday’s jobs report weakens the dollar without worsening the outlook for industrial demand.
