39-year-old travel agency shuts down in bankruptcy, cancels all flights

Driven by both a strong travel culture and deep-rooted national interest in organized tours, the United Kingdom once had a robust network of travel agencies.

But over the last few decades, the rise of online booking platforms and ease with which people can book their own flights and hotel stays has fundamentally altered the travel agency market. The number of British travel companies not able to survive these economic headwinds has been particularly high.

Trav Expert, Groupia, Salamander Voyages, Travel Bespoke, Regen Central, Set Sail Cruises, Yourtravelshop.com, Ski Yodel, and TS Travels Group are all among the names that have either ended up in insolvency proceedings or shut down operations entirely in 2026.

Norfolk travel agency Wroxham Travel shuts down in administration

The latest name to join this list is Wroxham Travel, a Norfolk-based travel agency that has been in business since 1987. The travel company entered administration, which is the insolvency process most closely resembling a company filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S., on October 30.

For the last 39 years, the travel agency sold Brits in the East Anglia region holiday packages both domestically (bus tours to London and other destinations) and to countries such as Spain, Italy, Türkiye, Indonesia, Zambia and Mauritius.

Both of the two physical Wroxham Travel storefronts in Norfolk now appear to be closed while the website for the travel agency goes to a broken link.

“We are sorry to inform you that Wroxham Travel has ceased trading with effect from October 30, 2026,” the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), the national organization representing travel agents and tour operators, said in a statement. “We are now treating this as a financial failure.”

“Your booking should continue as normal”: ABTA on canceled flight

On its website, Wroxham has been advertising tours for sale as early as the end of September. According to ABTA, those who bought a flight or hotel stay through the company should still be able to use it provided that they have a direct booking.

Travelers are advised to immediately check their booking to ensure that this is the case; in the alternate case of a canceled trip, customers will need to go through the process of seeking compensation through the Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing offering consumer protection in case of insolvent companies.

All future trips advertised on Wroxham Travel have been canceled.

“Your booking should continue as normal, and they will be your direct point of contact,” ABTA said further in its statement. “Please ensure that you have all your documentation with you, as they may require information from it to assist you.”

Some other travel agencies that ended in insolvency in 2026:

  • AVG Travels: The Melbourne-based travel agency selling cheap vacation packages to travelers in Australia and New Zealand sent more than 200 customers an email saying that the trips were canceled before entering bankruptcy in May 2026.
  • GoPlay Sports: In April 2026, the men’s basketball team of the University of Dallas was left without a planned trip to compete in the United Kingdom after Boston-based GoPlay Sports Tours LLC accepted two payments of $30,000 and then went unreachable.
  • Havantur: Havantur was forced to shut down its main European office in France at the beginning of 2026 after tourist numbers to the Caribbean country plummeted due to U.S. military actions in Venezuela and threats against the country.
  • Vegas Vacations and North America Destinations: Two travel agencies in the Canadian province of British Columbia, Vegas Vacations and North America Destinations, were shut down by regulators within a few days of each other in January 2026 after multiple travelers complained of buying trips and receiving invalid plane tickets and hotel bookings.
